An Inside Look at Companies

What Did Monitors Find in Factories

From January to December 2004, FLA-accredited monitors conducted 94 independent external monitoring visits in 18 countries to determine the extent to which factories complied with international labor standards. Read more about where these visits took place and what was found.

2005 Issue MFA and China

The expiry of the Multi-Fibre Arrangement (MFA) in December 2004 heralded the end of the quota system that had governed global trade in apparel for over forty years. Apparel industry analysts predicted that the elimination of the quota system would lead to a shift of production to China and other countries where production costs -- and labor standards -- are low.
