FLA Affiliates
The Fair labor Association works collaboratively with colleges and universities, civil society organizations, and socially responsible companies to improve the working conditions in factories around the world. These three groups have equal representation on the FLA’s policy-making Board of Directors. The FLA has learned that the most effective way to curb labor abuses is through a process that brings all stakeholders to the table.
- The cooperation, commitment, and compliance of manufacturers are especially important in the FLA process. Socially responsible companies, which are held accountable by the FLA to its Workplace Code of Conduct, have a strong influence on factory management and help to ensure that workers receive fair treatment from their employers. FLA Company Affiliates fall under Participating Company, Participating Supplier, or Collegiate Licensee categories B, C, or D.
- Colleges and Universities play an important role by ensuring that collegiate licensees and the factories they use in the production of university products conform with labor standards that protect workers’ rights. College and University Affiliates also help to raise awareness about human and labor rights issues on their campuses.
- Civil society organizations play a vital role in the FLA, not only in setting the organization’s policy but also at the grassroots level through coordination and cooperation with local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and trade unions that help to build and enhance labor compliance in workplaces around the world.
