FLA launches OECD alignment assessment process
As part of its efforts to champion rigorous and transparent labor standards and ensure that the Fair Labor Association (FLA) remains the most relevant approach for corporate compliance with international human rights due diligence frameworks, in April 2024 FLA launched an assessment process to review the alignment of FLA’s accreditation framework with the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains in the Garment and Footwear Sector (OECD Guidance).
OECD Guidance is an established benchmark for responsible business conduct, including conduct related to the rights of workers in global supply chains. Through a grant from German development agency Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, FLA will undergo a third-party evaluation to identify any gaps between FLA standards and the OECD Guidance and allow FLA to consider ways to ensure the two organizations can be even more closely aligned.
During the Standards Alignment Assessment process, assessors will evaluate how closely aligned FLA’s policies, standards, procedures, and operating requirements are with the OECD’s six-step human rights due diligence framework.
“The OECD guidelines are an important reference point, particularly with the move toward mandatory human rights due diligence, and this alignment assessment will inform our regular cycle of updating FLA standards and procedures,” said FLA President and CEO Jeff Vockrodt. “Keeping our standards updated helps ensure that we are reflecting international norms and that our capacity-building partnerships with member companies are more valuable than ever.”
