Issues: In 2006, the FLA received a third party complaint from the Cambodia Industry Union Federation alleging that provisions of the FLA Workplace Code of Conduct guaranteeing freedom of association and health and safety were being ignored at the Great Lancelot factory in Phnom Penh.
When Estofel, S.A. of Guatemala City, Guatemala, shut down in late 2007, a number of FLA affiliates—including the University of Washington, Gear for Sports, Hanesbrands and Philips-Van Heusen—led an effort with Ghim Li and the Collegiate Licensing Company that resulted in severance payments to 871 former Estofel workers from the parent company of the closed facility. The University of Notre Dame has high expectations regarding the level of corporate social responsibility commitment demonstrated by our licensees. FLA provides training and educational opportunities for licensees while simultaneously providing the University with feedback regarding the licensees’ progress in meeting company obligations.
