Gildan Activewear Assessment for Reaccreditation

The FLA Board of Directors voted to re-accredit Gildan’s social compliance program in June 2019. The vote followed a lengthy review that demonstrated the company has policies and practices in place to identify and remediate unfair labor practices in its global supply chain.

Gildan is a global activewear company headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, with significant manufacturing and assembly operations in Central America, the Caribbean Basin, Mexico, Bangladesh and the United States. The company also sources products from third-party contractors in Asia and Latin America.

As a long-standing participating member of the FLA, whose stakeholders have come to value our FLA accreditation, we are quite pleased to have our programs reaccredited once again. Gildan was one of the first vertically-integrated manufacturer to be accredited by the FLA more than ten years ago. Our reaccreditation demonstrates our efforts to creating the best working conditions for our valued employees.
Claudia Sandoval, VP Corporate Citizenship, Gildan

FLA noted in its report that Gildan’s social compliance program included:

  • Commitment from top management and Board oversight, including the presentation of quarterly social compliance reports to the company’s Board of Directors by the VP of Corporate Citizenship;
  • Comprehensive training and capacity-building programs on workplace standards in all Gildan facilities;
  • Effective remediation actions taken to address violations identified in Gildan and FLA assessments; and
  • Engagement of civil society organizations in Central America, especially on freedom of association and collective bargaining.Â
