The Fair Labor Association board of directors accredited the social compliance program of Under Armour, Inc. in February 2019. The accreditation confirms the company has strong policies and practices in place to set goals, monitor, and remediate problems to improve conditions for the workers within its global supply chain. The accreditation process is a multi-year examination of a company’s labor compliance program that supports increased corporate transparency.
In February 2018, affiliated Participating Companies Nike Inc. and Under Armour Inc. requested that the Fair Labor Association\ conduct a safeguards investigation at the factory New Holland Apparel de Nicaragua, S.A. The brands requested that the FLA engage an independent expert to investigate allegations of violations of freedom of association -- particularly with regard to the dismissal of a union leader who had employment protection -- as well as of other labor standards.
The Fair Labor Association (FLA), Fair Wear Foundation, Social Accountability International, and five affiliates sourcing from Cambodia have written to the Cambodian prime minister, expressing concern about recent developments related to the country’s minimum wage law, arbitration council, trade union law, and commitment to workers’ freedom of association.
In November 2015, affiliated companies adidas-Group and Under Armour requested that the FLA engage an independent expert to examine freedom of association-related issues at the factory New Holland Nica (also known as New Holland Apparel S.A.), located in the Zona Franca Astro, Managua, Nicaragua. Adidas-Group and Under Armour are buyers from the facility.
In March of 2015, a worker at the factory COFACO in Peru filed a Third Party Complaint with the Fair Labor Association (FLA) alleging various omissions and errors in providing COFACO workers with their full legally entitled wage payments and bonuses. An investigation by FLA Participating Company Under Armour determined that in some cases payments were made correctly, but workers were not aware of this, and in other cases payments to workers were late, or conducted in installments.
