FLA welcomes final passage of EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive

WASHINGTON, DC, April 24, 2024 — Following today’s formal adoption by the European Parliament of the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), Fair Labor Association President and CEO Jeff Vockrodt issued the following statement:

“For 25 years, FLA has worked to ensure that fair working conditions are the standard, not the exception, at farms and factories worldwide. Today’s vote on CSDDD is the strongest signal yet of the shift to mandatory human rights due diligence, which can play a powerful role in improving workers’ lives and leveling the playing field for companies with responsible supply chain practices. Although countries like France and Germany already have mandatory due diligence legislation in place, CSDDD extends this approach across the European Union.

“Effective implementation is going to be key to achieving the directive’s goals. FLA is committed to supporting a successful transition to mandatory due diligence, helping companies build capacity to embed due diligence across their supply chains, and bringing our experience and expertise to the conversation among businesses, governments, and civil society about how to make this work.”
