Gildan Activewear Assessment for Reaccreditation - June 2019

The Fair Labor Association's board of directors voted to re-accredit the social compliance program of Gildan Activewear, Inc., in June 2019 after the company demonstrated in a lengthy review that it has policies and practices in place to identify and remediate unfair labor practices in its global supply chain. Gildan is a global activewear company headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, with owned manufacturing and assembly operations in Central America, the Caribbean Basin, Mexico, Bangladesh and the United States. The company also sources from Asia and Latin America.

The FLA noted the following about Gildan’s social compliance program:

  • Commitment from top management and Board oversight, including the presentation of quarterly social compliance reports to the company’s board of directors by the vice president of Corporate Citizenship
  • Comprehensive training and capacity-building programs on workplace standards in all Gildan facilities
  • Effective remediation actions taken to address violations identified in Gildan and FLA assessments
  • Engagement of civil society organizations in Central America, especially on issues of freedom of association and collective bargaining
