On October 7, 2016, the FLA Board of Directors voted to re-accredit Mountain Equipment Co-op’s labor compliance program. The Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) reaccreditation covers the period from 2013 to 2016.

Upon affiliation, the applicable facility scope included MEC-branded apparel, accessories, and some hard goods. In 2014, the company included its remaining MEC-branded suppliers by adding its bicycle and sunglasses suppliers to the FLA factory list, increasing its total number of suppliers from 34 to 66.

From 2013 to 2016, MEC received three SCI assessments in India and China.  In 2015, FLA conducted a headquarters assessment for reaccreditation in Vancouver, Canada, and reviewed a 2015 SCI assessment as a “verification assessment.”  In 2016, MEC received one SCI verification assessment in China. and is scheduled for an SCI assessment in Taiwan.

The reaccreditation report commends MEC’s strengths, including its collaborative efforts to improve working conditions with other brands, service providers, and multi-stakeholder organizations; and its commitment to responsible purchasing practices.
