Factory assessments

FLA holds members in our Manufacturing Accreditation Program accountable for enforcement of the Fair Labor Code in their supplier facilities. Our rigorous system for assessing working conditions, remedying violations, and verifying progress includes visits to a random sample of facilities each year.

FLA conducts three types of Independent External Assessments (IEAs) in the manufacturing supply chains of FLA participating companies. Facilities are selected for IEAs based on the accreditation status of the company; the type of facility; a company’s history with FLA; known labor risks; and other related factors. The assessments are performed by FLA-approved assessors.

FLA assessments are published with companies’ corrective action plans (CAP), which members are required to continuously update until all findings are addressed. However, FLA recognizes that in certain circumstances some findings may require further collective and/or long-term engagement due to a specific country’s political environment or legislative framework. One example of this type of finding is for Right to Freely Associate (FOA.2) in countries where Freedom of Association (FOA) is limited by law such as China, Myanmar, and Vietnam.
