Latest FLA Student Committee Journal addresses pressing human rights and social responsibility issues
The Fair Labor Association (FLA) recently released the fourth volume of the FLA Student Committee Journal. The journal, authored by members of FLA’s Student Committee, focuses on social responsibility topics of the 21st century and is the culmination of the committee’s work throughout the 2023-2024 academic year.
This year’s volume consists of 11 essays written by Student Committee members, with topics including:
- Challenging limited liability
- Fair compensation and the global apparel industry
- Increasing the effectiveness of grievance mechanisms
- The impact of technology on workers’ rights
For the 2023–2024 academic year, 19 students from 13 universities participated in the Committee. Eleven of the students wrote articles sharing their perspectives, while 10 students (including five of the authors) supported the editing process.
Student Committee members are selected from undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at one of FLA’s approximately 140 member colleges and universities across North America. The Student Committee provides opportunities for real-world learning, professional development, and networking with peers, subject matter experts, and FLA staff.
FLA looks forward to continuing to facilitate these opportunities for university students, who are some of the most passionate and vocal defenders of workers’ rights. The application process for the 2024–2025 FLA Student Committee will open later this summer.
