Accreditation

When joining the FLA, Participating Companies commit to promoting and complying with international labor standards throughout their supply chains, both in the U.S. and overseas. When Participating Companies sign on with the FLA, they agree to a two- or three-year implementation schedule, during which period they work toward bringing their supply chains into substantial compliance with the FLA Workplace Code of Conduct. At the end of the implementation period, the FLA evaluates whether or not the company can be considered for accreditation. By accrediting labor compliance programs, the FLA demonstrates its commitment to hold companies accountable for improving labor standards in their supply chains.

Being granted accreditation implies that a Participating Company’s workplace standards program is substantially in compliance with the FLA Code. Companies are assessed on the basis of fulfillment of the 10 Obligations of Companies as described in the FLA Charter. These obligations include adopting and communicating the FLA Code, training staff to monitor and remediate noncompliance issues, conducting internal monitoring of facilities, and providing workers with confidential reporting channels. The FLA does not grant a certification or accredit the company itself; rather, we accredit the company’s labor compliance program for a specific period of time, which is indicative of the presence of systems and procedures required for successful labor standards compliance.

Once accredited, a Participating Company becomes due for reaccreditation at the end of a three-year period and is reaccredited following a satisfactory FLA evaluation of labor compliance systems and activities during the timeframe. Currently, the labor compliance programs of 9 Participating Companies have been accredited by the FLA.
